
How to Apply
Be ready for the next open application period by reviewing information below!
We welcome aspiring professionals to apply and we invite the full participation of individuals currently exploring STEM and public land management career fields.

Before you apply

1. Browse available positions
Take a look at positions that interest you!

Make sure you will be available during listed position dates and for the entire duration

You can apply for up to five positions per season

Positions close after receiving 60 applications so please apply early!

2. Collect application materials
You will need a current resume, recent school transcript, and 2–3 references. Be prepared to provide a reference's name, email, and phone number. Select people who could speak strongly on your behalf, if contacted.



3. Review timelines
Updated 7/30/2025: The Scientists in Parks program will open applications for Winter 2025–2026 positions on September 2, plan to apply by October 12, 2025. Positions will have start dates between January and April 2026.

Please note the updated timelines differ from our typical winter cycle, which usually runs from May through mid-June. We will update timeline graphics soon.

5. Preview application questions
The application will ask you to prepare responses to six questions meant to help you highlight how your background/interests complement your participation in the program. You'll complete the same set of questions when applying to each position. Check out these questions and other information in this worksheet.
